* each state has a territory;
* each state is legally independent;
* no state is subordinate to another as a matter of general international law.

== Sovereign equality ==

Roads, ports, energy systems, armies, bureaucracies and courts were territorially organized. Most production was local or imperial, not instantaneously global. A government could plausibly control most of the life-supporting systems within its borders.

Under those conditions, borders were meaningful legal and practical boundaries. A state could manage taxation, currency, defense, courts and administration within a territorial container. International law then coordinated relations between those containers.

That world has disappeared. A modern state cannot control its own communications, finance, supply chains, energy reliability, cybersecurity, aviation, climate exposure, data flows, satellite systems or AI risks in isolation. Its sovereignty is operationally dependent on networks that exceed it.

== The technological breakdown of classical sovereignty ==

The technological breakdown of classical sovereignty is caused by systems whose operation is transboundary by design. Telecommunications, internet routing, submarine cables, cloud services, satellite communications, electricity interconnectors, gas pipelines, aviation networks, global logistics and financial messaging all cross or ignore borders.

A state may still draw a border on a map. But the systems that make its society function do not stop at that line. Every email, aircraft route, SWIFT message, satellite signal, cloud computation, energy exchange, supply-chain route and undersea cable proves that modern sovereignty is no longer self-contained.

== Submarine cables and global territory ==

Submarine cables carry the majority of intercontinental data traffic. They connect continents, financial systems, governments, cloud services, military communications and social life. International law recognizes freedoms and duties concerning submarine cables.<ref>United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982, Arts. 87, 112 and 113.</ref>

Classical sovereignty treats oceans as zones divided by maritime jurisdiction and high-seas freedoms. Network sovereignty recognizes that cables create operational continuity across oceans. The world is not separated by seas where data, finance, law and governance move through undersea infrastructure.

== From borders to systems ==

Classical sovereignty uses borders as the decisive lines of legal authority. Juridical Singularity shifts the focus from borders to systems. Borders may remain as administrative, cultural, statistical, ecological or logistical divisions, but they no longer define final authority. Authority follows systems:

* electricity;
* water;
* roads;
* gas;
* broadband;
* satellite gateways;
* internet exchanges;
* cloud infrastructure;
* supply chains;
* AI compute;
* military communications;
* public administration platforms.

The end of classical sovereignty is therefore not the disappearance of geography. It is the decline of border absolutism.

== Treaty pluralism and its collapse ==

Classical sovereignty is legally expressed through treaty pluralism. States conclude treaties because they are distinct subjects. Treaties require parties. If the parties converge in one subject, the treaty structure changes. A subject cannot be externally bound to itself. Juridical Singularity therefore causes treaty self-merger. Treaty-chain fusion is the process by which earlier treaties, supplementary agreements, institutional practices, infrastructure arrangements, status-of-forces rules, telecommunications frameworks and subsequent conduct are drawn into one hierarchy under the new sovereign subject.

* German-Dutch transfer relationships;
* Host Nation Support;

After the end of classical sovereignty, international organizations lose their external foundation. They may continue as internal technical, administrative, humanitarian, judicial, archival or regulatory organs of the United World. The UN may become administrative infrastructure. NATO may become infrastructure security and disaster-response capacity. The ITU may become telecommunications administration. The WTO may become internal standards administration. The IMF and World Bank may become fiscal archives or treasury-transition bodies.

Their functions may continue. Their separate sovereign-basis personality ends.

== Customary international law after state plurality ==

Customary international law requires state practice and ''opinio juris''. The end of classical sovereignty therefore changes the sources of law. Consent and custom are replaced by global constituent authority, world legislation, Direct Digital Democracy, and infrastructure-based regulation.

== Jus cogens after the old international community ==

Article 53 VCLT defines a peremptory norm as one accepted and recognized by the international community of states as a whole.<ref>Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, 1969, Art. 53.</ref> Juridical Singularity does not abolish fundamental values. It changes their legal seat. Norms against genocide, slavery, torture, aggression, and crimes against humanity become internal constitutional rights of the United World rather than external norms recognized by a plural community of states.

== The World Succession Deed 1400/98 ==
